If you have read my "Chemicals in our products" Blog, then you know I have a personal story connected with making more mindful choices when it comes to putting ANYTHING on my skin and what I eat. If you haven't read that Blog yet and are interested in what chemicals may be in your products, you can do so HERE.
For my own health reasons I became concerned with chemicals that were in my everyday house and beauty products, such as aluminum in my deodorant, synthetic fragrances in just about everything, bisphenol-A (BPA) plastics.... these are to just to name a few. I have learned the importance of reading EVERY label on EVERY food and personal product label. Making more mindful decisions on what I apply to my skin has been a life changer for me. Since then, everyday struggles such as my muscle flare ups, headaches, and severe rashes have greatly improved!
It took me a while to figure out what my skin really needed and what it didn't need. At first I was stubborn with thoughts such as "Everyone else is using it, why can't I?!" and "The stores sell it so it must be ok to use, Right?" and "What is the big deal?"
The truth is this....it was inconvenient to find products with pure natural ingredients. It was inconvenient to find out the truth about harmful chemicals and to research them myself. It also seemed so much more expensive then the "regular" stuff....super inconvenience on that one. I have learned to invest in what I truly need, and humble myself enough to say "I don't really need that." In the end, spending the extra couple bucks has been totally worth it. I have learned the true value in the saying "You get what you pay for."
I remember feeling complete anger, frustration and disgust that I couldn't find a product that was just pure and clean, I mean does it really have to be so hard to find a product with real ingredients, what is going on here!? I would think, am I the only one who knows about these synthetic and harmful toxic ingredients? Luckily, now that in 2018 you can find a nice variety of brands in stores that are making better quality products with natural ingredients. But please still read EVERY label and know that the product industry is scary unregulated....These days you have to truly be your own advocate, do your research and don't give up.
After years of doing this I eventually just started making my own products, BUT something happened when I was blessed with becoming a momma.... I didn't have to just be aware of my own personal care products anymore, I now had 2 little ones to buy and make products for! This definitely was a challenge for me and it did become overwhelming at times, I didn't know if knowing about the toxic ingredients was a blessing or a curse some days. I made a commitment to a lifestyle change. I dug deep into research on which essential oils were appropriate for their age, how much epsom salt was tolerable for them, etc.
Here are my mommy inspired products!
Every kid wants those colorful fun fuzzy bath tablets, you know the ones that stain your bathtub. Those little fun fuzzy colorful tablets are incredibly toxic so I made my kids their own fizzy tablets with lavender essential oil, and bam!... pure mommy happiness and the kids love them. After educating them on the difference and teaching them how to read their own labels, they now never ask for the store ones anymore!
Yes hairspray was inspired by my three year old! During her ballet practice for her big recital I was asked to have her hair sprayed and pinned back. I knew instantly I was going to make our own hairspray, there was no way I was going to go buy a can because of how toxic it is and I certainly didn't own any hairspray. So I set out on a mommy mission to make her hair stay in place and inspired to make a new product! The hairspray I made turned out so well, I have began styling and scrunching my hair since!
This body balm is packed with skin loving ingredients, delivering mega moisture with vitamins and completely safe from head to toe for little ones. We have used this for rashes, scraped knees, bug bites, and "calming" bed time rub.
The Lavender and Frankincense blend is recommended for little ones.
My kids love taking baths, it is a great way to wind down after a long day of activities. Another product we use regularly in our home is the salt soak. It is packed with soothing essential oils and minerals. If they have a rash then we use the Bentonite Clay mix. This is a go to especially if sniffles start to happen!
We also use essential oils daily in our home. The benefits are endless! They support the immune system, calm an upset stomach or hyperactivity, aid in bug bites, soothe rashes, and so much more. Here is my favorite, most trusted brand.
